Budapest University of technology

The Budapest University of Technology and Economics was founded 1782. It is a public research university located in Budapest, Hungary. The university offers BSc, MSc and PhD programs. All departments have scientific research workshops. The Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology scientific activities in many areas belongs to the international forefront. The university consists of highly qualified faculty to carry out the research and teaching. Research priorities are related to the fields of inorganic and organic chemistry, pharmaceutical innovation, process engineering, biotechnology, health and environment protection, food related topics, nanotechnology, material sciences, development of polymer composites. The scientific activities are connected to the national Research University program. A number of BSc, MSc and PhD students are strongly involved in the research work. The Department of Applied Biotechnology and Food Science (ABET) was established 2007 with the fusion of Department of Biochemistry and Food Technology and Department of Agricultural Chemical Technology. The main areas of the professional activity are biochemistry, molecular biology, food science, biotechnology and relating border areas. The curricula of the four-level education (BSc, MSc, PhD and vocational training), is continuously improved by strengthening the interdisciplinarity, which is characteristic in the field of bioengineering. The Department of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry, BME has a long tradition, being it the first chemistry department of the university. The Department of Physical Chemistry and Materials Science was established in 2007 by the merger of the Department of Physical Chemistry founded in 1951 and the Department of Plastics and Rubber Technology created in 1953. The Department of Chemical and Environmental Process Engineering was established in 2007 with the integration of The Department of Chemical Technology (1870) and The Department of Chemical Engineering (1952). The department offers major courses in Chemical Unit Operations, Process Control, Process Systems Engineering, courses on technology (Chemical Technology etc.), Water Chemistry, Waste Water Treatment, Radiochemistry, Environment Oriented Process Design, Catalysis, Hydrocarbon Technologies. The main research areas of the Department are: separation systems, distillation, clean technologies, supercritical fluid extraction, water technologies, waste water treatment, nuclear technologies, catalysis, membrane separations and design of experiments.
