College of William & Mary was founded in 1693. It is a public research university located in Williamsburg, Virginia, United States. It is the second oldest college in the nation with cutting edge research offering highly selective world class education. The college offers 10 select graduate programs and dozens of undergraduate majors and minors, connecting the breadth and depth of knowledge across the arts and sciences. The Department of chemistry offers one of the nation's premier undergraduate programs, ranking nationally amongst the top programs in the number of degrees certified by the American Chemical Society, and typically producing more majors every year than any other predominantly undergraduate institution in the country. In addition to certified and non-certified bachelor's degrees, the department also offers several masters' degree tracks and biochemistry minor. The department also offers graduate programs in chemistry (M.S), environmental chemistry (M.S), Acclerated combined B.S/M.S in chemistry, M.A in chemistry and combined M.S in chemistry / Ph.D in applied science. The faculty members are recognized leaders in their fields and passionately engaged educators. They understand that first-hand knowledge, original research and a first-person cross-cultural perspective have the power to turn an ordinary class into an unforgettable experience. Chemistry laboratory facilities include stockrooms, a reading room, a glass-blowing shop, shared instrumentation laboratories for multi-nuclear magnetic resonance, chromatography, spectroscopy (uv/visible, fluorescence, and atomic absorption), mass spectrometry and polymer characterization, as well as a regional X-ray diffraction facility.
