Dartmouth College

Dartmouth College was founded in 1769. It is a four year private liberal arts college located in Hanover, New Hampshire, United States. It is a member of the Ivy League. The college consistently ranks among the world's greatest academic institutions. Dartmouth College educates the most promising students and prepares them for a lifetime of learning and of responsible leadership, through a faculty dedicated to teaching and the creation of knowledge. The chemistry department occupies a modern (opened in 1992), spacious building with state-of-the-art research facilities and equipment. The department is small, with a student: professor ratio of about 2:1, so students receive personal attention. Dartmouth’s chemistry department combines the personalized instruction and mentoring of a small college with the expertise of a research university. The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs. The Chemistry Department offers five major programs. Three of the major programs are offered as majors in chemistry and 2 programs are in biophysical chemistry, biological chemistry. The department also offers minor programs. Dartmouth offers a major in earth sciences and environmental earth sciences. These programs are intended to provide a background in earth sciences sufficient for graduate work or employment in the field. Degrees may also be modified with earth sciences to provide a specific and unified course of study. For example, physics, chemistry, astronomy, and environmental studies may be modified with earth sciences.
