Georgetown University

Georgetown University was founded in 1789. It is the nation’s oldest Catholic and Jesuit University. The university is one of the world’s leading academic and research institutions, offering a unique educational experience that prepares the next generation of global citizens to lead and make a difference in the world. The university offers undergraduate and graduate programs in various study areas. The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular & Cellular Biology offers M.S degree in Biochemistry Molecular Biology , M.S degree in biochemistry Molecular Biology - Bioinformatics Track. It also offers two parallel Ph.D. programs in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Cell Biology. Both programs have the same core course requirements, and students may tailor their electives to suit their individual goals. Students in either program may perform their thesis research in any of the departmental Ph.D. training laboratories; laboratory selection is based on rotations performed in the first year. Students with a background or particular interest in areas such as molecular mechanisms, proteomics or biophysics may opt for the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology program. Those who lean toward developmental or stem cell biology or other cellular processes may prefer the Cell Biology program. The Department of Chemistry offers many exciting learning and research opportunities in core and emerging interdisciplinary areas of chemistry that are at the forefront of modern chemical sciences. The department offers two separate undergraduate majors - a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.S. in Biochemistry. The department also offers a minor in Chemistry. The Chemistry major is fully accredited by the American Chemical Society (ACS). The department offers a rigorous program leading to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) which prepares graduates for a variety of careers in industry, government, and academia.
