Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf was founded in 1965. It was the successor organization to Düsseldorf’s Medical Academy of 1907. The university is one of the youngest universities in the state North Rhine-Westphalia. The university has experienced a dynamic growth. The university offers undergraduate and graduate study programmes at five faculties. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences consits of seven departments. The Department of Chemistry is considered to be one of the important fields at the Faculty for Natural Sciences and Mathematics. The Department is closely linked to the "Forschungszentrum Jülich" with regard to research and teaching. The department of Chemistry not only offers courses in "classical" chemistry, but also cross-divisional fields of studies in Biochemistry. The department offers Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees.
