IT Roorkee is one of the biggest technical institutions in the country having the largest number of academic units. The department of Chemical Engineering was established in 1963 with an undergraduate program-me in Chemical Engineering. The Department offers high level research programme in diverse areas of Chemical Engineering. It has been providing consultancy to chemical and allied industries in several areas. The department of chemistry was established in 1960. It is, since then, engaged in providing highest level and quality of academic education. The main focus of the teaching and research in the department is centered on interdisciplinary themes which have gained worldwide attention and appreciation. The department of Earth Sciences (formerly the department of Geology and Geophysics) is one of the leading departments in the country engaged in high quality teaching, research and consultancy in the field of Earth Sciences. It was established in year 1960. During the span of about five decades, the department has become on the foremost centres of teaching, research and consultancy. Saharanpur Campus, formerly known as the School of Paper Technology was established by the Government of India in 1964, with an aid from the Royal Swedish Government. The Saharanpur campus has three Departments - Department of Paper Technology, Department of Polymer and Process engineering and Department of Applied Sciences and Engineering.
