Jegiellonian is the oldest university in Poland, the second oldest university in Central Europe and one of the oldest universities in the world.The university is called to the education and upbringing, and research. Through its activities and members of his personal example of the University  community prepares homeland mature people to self-solving tasks posed by modern life, taking part in the development of science,   health, arts and other fields of culture, education and train students and faculty, in accordance with ideas of humanism and tolerance, in a spirit of respect for the truth and hard work, respect for human rights and dignity, patriotism, democracy, honor and responsibility for the fate of society and homeland. The University performs its task by maintaining ties with domestic and foreign centers and research institutions, scientific, academic, cultural, educationa  economic, and health care centers. Jagiellonian University operates on the principle of freedom of scientific research and teaching. Jagiellonian University chemistry can be traced back to 1782, when Jan Ja?kiewicz launched a series of lectures at the just established Collegium Physicum. In the present shape the Faculty of Chemistry came into being in 1981 and it offers two lines of specialisation: chemistry and environment protection.
