King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals was founded in 1963. It is a public university in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. The science and engineering programs are highly regarded. The university offers undergraduate and graduate courses. The College of Sciences is one of the pillars of the University. The Department of Chemistry comes within the college of sciences. The chemistry department was one of the first departments established when the university was founded. Since then the department's faculty members sincerely contributed to fulfill King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals mission of excellence in teaching and research. The department offers undergraudate courses in chemistry and industrial chemistry. The department also runs programs leading to MS and PhD degrees in chemistry. The research conducted by chemistry faculty spans the core traditional fields of chemistry as well as interdisciplinary areas in collaboration with other academic departments such as Physics, Chemical Engineering, and with research centers such as Nanotechnology and Petroleum and Petrochemical centers at KFUPM’s Research Institute. The department is well equipped with the latest and most advanced instrumentation needed for research. The College of Engineering Sciences and Applied Engineering is one of the top colleges in the region. Our mission is to graduate engineers, who are well founded in engineering fundamentals, blended with the highest standards of professional and ethical behavior, and are prepared to meet the technical challenges of the workplace and the needs of the society. The Department of Chemical Engineering is one of the largest of its kind in Saudi Arabia, providing a broad range of educational and research opportunities. The department offers two undergraduate programs in chemical engineering science and applied chemical engineering. It also provides graduate programs that lead to a degree of Master of Science (MS) and a degree of doctor of philosophy (PhD). The Department of Petroleum Engineering was established in 1973. The department's teaching and research laboratories are fully equipped with state-of-the art equipment. The laboratories cover the areas of drilling fluids, oil-well cementing, rock and fluid properties, rock mechanics, quantitative analysis, thin sectioning and microscopy, formation evaluation, enhanced oil recovery and production engineering. In addition, a multifunction specialized research laboratory, a drilling simulator and a drilling fluid flow loop are dedicated to graduate research. The department also has access to the general analytical laboratories of the Research Institute. The department offers B.S, M.S. and PhD degrees programs.
