The Institute of Organic Synthesis was founded in 1957, comprising three laboratories previously belonging to three different institutes of the Latvian Academy of Sciences and connected with the search for new pharmaceuticals. The staff of the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis numbers 312 persons, including 180 researchers, 9 members and corresponding members of Latvian Academy of Sciences, 16 Dr. hab. and 90 Dr. among them. Keeping up its best traditions the Institute continues to combine its activities in the fundamental research with the development of new drugs and with higher chemical education.
