Le Moyne College

Le Moyne College, named after Simon Le Moyne, is a private Jesuit college in Syracuse, New York enrolling over 3,500 undergraduate and graduate students. Founded by the Society of Jesus in 1946, Le Moyne is the first Jesuit college to be founded as a co-educational institution. The College is the second-youngest of the twenty-eight Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States, and is the only comprehensive Catholic College in Central New York. The chemistry program has been accredited by the American Chemical Society (ACS) and closely follows the recommendations of that society in the design of its academic programs. The minimum requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry include two semesters of each of the following areas: general, organic, analytical and physical chemistry; one semester of inorganic chemistry and biochemistry; and one upper-division chemistry elective. A student completing the program is certified by the ACS. Exceptions to ACS certification may be made by the department chair. Each Chemistry major will have the opportunity to participate in an original research project under the supervision of a faculty member. The department encourages all majors to become involved in the research program. An honors program in chemistry is also available.
