Lehigh University was founded in 1865. It is a private research university located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The university offers undergraduate and graduate programs in various study areas. It consists of 4 colleges. The university is recognized among the nation's premier research universities. The College of Arts & Sciences offers a multidimensional, multidisciplinary liberal arts education encompassing academics and research. Students have opportunities to work in world class laboratories, as well as learn from creative artists in smaller educational environments. The Department of Chemistry provides a unique and exciting program of study for both graduate and undergraduate students. The department offer BS, BA, MS and Ph.D. degrees in chemistry and a BS degree in Biochemistry (interdisciplinary). The department also offers the MS degree via distance education. The program is designed to provide students with a broad background in chemistry while simultaneously offering opportunities to explore cutting-edge, multidisciplinary research problems. Research opportunities are available in areas such as materials chemistry, biological chemistry, surface chemistry, and nanoscience and technology, along with those in the traditional disciplines of analytical, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry. The Department of Biological Sciences offers an interdepartmental B.S. degree major in biochemistry. The B.S. in biochemistry degree is managed by an interdepartmental committee composed of biochemists, bioorganic chemists, and molecular/cellular biologists. The Department of Chemical & Bimolecular Engineering offer an internationally recognized education and research focus areas in materials processing, environment and energy, bioengineering, and systems and information. Students work in close collaboration with renowned faculty, conduct innovative research in exceptionally equipped labs, and enjoy the support of industry partners who value the Lehigh educational experience and the caliber of the graduates it produces. The department's program is accredited by the Engineering Commission of ABET.
