National Institute of Material and Chemical Research

The Industrial Laboratory was established in 1900 under the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce. Its name was changed the Government Chemical Industrial Research Institute, Tokyo. And then to the National Chemical Laboratory for Industry in 1972. In January 1993, groups conducting research into materials and substances in these three Institutes, all of which had moved to Tsukuba in 1979, were reorganized, and the National Institute of Materials and Chemical Research was established.
