The National Institute of Technology (formerly known as Regional Engineering College) Tiruchirappalli, situated in the heart of Tamil Nadu on the banks of river Cauvery, was started as a joint and co-operative venture of the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1964 with a view to catering to the needs of man-power in technology for the country. The college has been conferred with autonomy in financial and administrative matters to achieve rapid development. Because of this rich experience, this institution was granted Deemed University Status with the approval of the UGC/AICTE and Govt. of India in the year 2003 and renamed as National Institute of Technology. NIT-T was registered under Societies Registration Act XXVII of 1975. The Department of Chemistry was established in 1971 The Department of Chemistry possesses excellent facilities and sophisticated equipments for the students during their course of study. The Department has five laboratories namely, B.E/B.Tech. lab, PG lab, Instrumentation lab, Computer lab and Research lab, which are well equipped to meet the demands of the students. The department continues to be recognized as one of the major post-graduate centers in Chemistry in Tamil Nadu and has been cited for our excellence. Established in 1968, the Department of Chemical Engineering,NIT Trichy is regarded as one of the premier centers for Chemical Engineering in India by industries as well as academia. The National Board of Accreditation (NBA) has granted all PG courses offered by the department, the A(+3) certification for 3 years, the topmost any department can aspire to get. It also has the distinction of being ranked as one of the top seven Chemical Engineering divisions in India by Chemical Engineering Faculties.The department is backed by highly qualified and experienced faculty, most of whom have been involved in various industrial projects and consultancy services. The students, guided by the experienced faculty, have presented many papers in India and abroad and have won several National Level Design Competitions.
