Royal Holloway was opened in 1886. Since its opening the College has continued to grow in size and status to become one of the top research-led institutions in the country. The Department of Earth Sciences offers undergraduate and post graduate courses. The department is highly regarded and friendly department that provides a stimulating and supportive environment for students and staff alike to study and research a wide range of earth sciences. Staff pursue a wide range of research interests including environmental geoscience, geochemistry and geophysics, magmatic processes, palaeobotany, and structural and sedimentary geology. Strong collaborative links with the petroleum geosciences industries, environmental consultancies and engineers,and local authorities provide valuable support for postgraduate research projects, employment for graduates, and work experience for undergraduates.
