Heidelberg University was established in 1386 and is Germany’s oldest university. Heidelberg University is a research university with a strong international orientation. The Physico-Chemical Institute (PCI) of the Faculty of Chemistry and Earth Sciences at the University of Heidelberg is an internationally known center for the application of laser diagnostic methods in chemical processes, biophotonics, Design and analysis of surfaces and interfaces as well as biophysical and theoretical chemistry. PCI offers both undergraduate (Bachelor) and in graduate studies (Masters and PhD) an intensive practical and theoretical training in the latest developments, methods and applications of physical, biophysical and theoretical chemistry. Thus, the students are prepared for direct entry into an independent scientific or practical work in research or industry.
