Salem State University was established in 1854. It is a comprehensive, publicly supported institution of higher learning located approximately 15 miles north of Boston, and is one of the largest state universities in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The college of Arts & Sciences offers the undergraduate courses in chemistry - ACS approved. The geological sciences department at Salem State is a learning community of faculty, students, and staff engaged in the teaching and application of knowledge in every major area of the geological sciences.
