University of Belgrade

University of Belgrade was founded in 1808. It is the oldest and largest university in Serbia. The University of Belgrade is a state university. Its main activities in the fields of higher education and scientific research are activities of public interest, and they are carried out in accordance with the legal regulations. The modern Faculty of Chemistry, an institution of the Belgrade University, developed from Licej (Lyceum) (1838-1863) and "Velika škola" (Advanced School) (1863-1905). In 1853 a new class was formed at "Licej" - it was a scientific-technical class which, among other branches of science, started studying chemistry. The faculty of chemistry offers basic academic studies through accredited study programmes like chemistry, biochemistry, environmental chemistry and chemical education. It also offers MSc programs in chemistry, biochemistry, environmental chemistry and PhD programs in chemistry and biochemistry. The faculty carries out its scientific activity as an equally important aspect of its general activities.
