University of Eastern Finland

University of Eastern Finland was founded in 2010 as the result of the merger of the University of Joensuu and the University of Kuopio. It is one of the largest universities in Finland. It is a multidisciplinary university which is internationally recognized for its competitive research and education. The university's campuses are located in Joensuu, Kuopio, and Savonlinna. The Department of Chemistry at University of Eastern Finland was established in 1972. It has a long experience and an excellent track record in research chemist education. The department with its unique, research oriented curriculum has been recognized as a “Unit of High-Quality Education” by the Ministry of Education. The Department offers university degree education and does research work in major fields of modern chemistry. The Department consists of four divisions: Inorganic chemistry, Organic chemistry, Materials chemistry and Physical chemistry. The Department of Environmental Science is nationwide the largest environmental science research and education unit. The department offers graduate programs. The School of Pharmacy at the Kuopio campus offers Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and PhD programs in pharmacy. A major part of the Ph.D. education consists of the research-based thesis focused on one of the disciplines, and is carried out in one of the research groups of the school.
